Our Story

Welcome to Pack 55. Pack 55 serves the Allandale neighborhood with Gullett Elementary, and provides scouting for the Home School community in Austin Texas.  We are part of the Capital Area Council, Armadillo District.  The Pack meets at our chartered organization The Church at Highland Park on Balcones Drive in Austin.  We are a relatively large pack, with approximately 60 Scouts, and have been serving the community since 1979.

Cub Scouts is a service organization that focuses on community service, good citizenship, and the outdoors.  Cub Scouts teaches values through fun activities.  We believe that the best way to teach scouts to get them outside.  Pack 55 has an excellent record of developing the scouts and preparing them for their transition to BSA Scouts (formerly Boy Scouts). Our mission is to teach the scouts:

Others Before Self

Always Look for Ways to Serve

Have the Courage to Act

Pack structure:

The Pack is broken up by Dens which is age/grade specific.  The Cubs will advance each year.  The scouts will work towards their Arrow of Light award which is the highest level in Cub Scouts and graduate into BSA Scouts (formerly Boy Scouts) in the 5th grade or (11) years old. The pack meets on the 3rd  Thursday of every month from 6:30-8 pm at The Church at Highland Park of every month and the dens generally meet 2 times per month.  Here is a breakdown of the ranks:

1.     Tigers:  1st Grade

2.    Wolves:  2nd Grade

3.    Bears:  3rd Grade

4.    Webelos:  4th Grade

5.    Arrow of Light:  5th Grade

Uniforms:

The pack requires the scouts to wear their Class A uniform which is the Blue Shirt for Tigers-Bears and Tan shirt for the Webelos I & II.  We do not require the scouts to wear hats.  The official uniform pants or shorts are optional as long as they wear either the Blue or Olive pants or shorts.  The Class B uniform is the pack T-shirt used for outdoor events.  Each cub will be issued a T-shirt when they join the pack.  Additional T-shirts will be available for purchase. Please reference the link for details.  The BSA Fickett Center on Rte. 35 has a service to sew the necessary patches.  The scouts will need their council patch, Pack 55 patch, and World crest patch.  They will also need a neckerchief, and belt.
